Welcome to Eagles Classic Rugby 2010!
A message from The President of Team America

Hello and greetings (Kia Ora) from the president of The Classic Eagles Mr. Tony Flay.  I would like to personally welcome the new players that have earned their right to wear our country’s colors in the upcoming test match against The Classic Canadians in beautiful Calgary, Alberta.  These matches are always very intense and we are sure that this years mix of new players and savvy veterans will yield a solid performance.  Again, CONGRATS to all that have been selected and GO USA!

I have been coaching the super power Hautapu RFC in Waikato, NZ.  Still adjusting to New Zealand style, both in Rugby and in life!  Our kids are in school and they are wishing they were back in the states as teenagers.  My father Dale has been receiving cancer treatments in Melbourne, Australia.  Keep him in your thoughts and prayer’s, I will have updates for you shortly.  He has a rare form of Lymphoma, Sezary Syndrome.

I will be back in Bermuda for the 2010’ World Rugby Classic after a years hiatus completing our move etc…  I am looking forward to keeping you hooligans in line and enjoying all of your company.  A big thanks to everyone in the Classic Eagle Administration for doing a great job and for their dedicated service this year ands always.  Hoping the Classic Eagles can make a trip down under for the World Cup in 2011’.   Many thanks and high praises to all of our loyal sponsors and supporters, you truly make the Classic Eagles a success!

As a Bermuda re-cap from the 2009’ World Rugby Classic there was mixed feeling on the outcomes of our games.  While we had a considerable amount of possession against The British Lions, the 2008’ champions we were once again our own worst enemy.  Many great line breaks were followed up by errant passes ands knock ons.  The forwards and backs matched up well most of the game until late when The Lions superb ball handling allowed for a couple of late try’s.  In poor conditions we made the most mistakes, they proved their dominance in wet weather with little errors!

The next match saw us play a spirited Wallabies side that exposed our backline for some beautiful try’s that saw many hands involved.  Again, we played in wet conditions and we lost the ball in all phases of play.  Pop passes by the forwards saw the ball come loose and slow play to our speedy backs negated any opportunities we may have had.  Big win for the Aussies!  We have dissected our play immensely from that tour and will look to rebound our winning ways against The Classic Canadians this July in Calgary!   The match will be played in conjunction with The Calgary Stampede Festival, North America’s largest outdoor festival and Rodeo.  It’s on their soil so we have lots to prove and will surely have our hands full.

The continued success and progressive development of The Classic Eagles and it’s future could not survive without the support of it’s loyal sponsors!  They include:

Allied World Assurance
RW Smith & Associates – Dick Smith
Maxen Capital – Bob Irwin
Virtual Spectator – Doug King & Curtis Worthy
Hancock Builders – Keith McLean
KUDU Roofing – Guy & Diane Mumford
City Wide Maintenance of Colorado – Doug Brown
Union Sportswear – Robbie Flynn
Vineyard Vines
Zynex Medical – Whitey & Cori Nelson

Again, thanks to our sponsors and supporters and for the players that make the commitment to be a part of The Classic Eagles!  Go get em’ in Calgary!

Sincerely,
A.W. Flay
Classic Eagles President
