TA,
We
hope you are enjoying a happy New Year and that this letter finds you
in good health. Now that we have all had time to take a break and enjoy
the holidays it is time to begin thinking about the upcoming TA season.
We have several events in the works beginning with the LA Sevens in
February, and culminating at the Bermuda World Rugby Classic in
November. We have a confirmed match against Canada in Regina,
Saskatchewan. The date has yet to be confirmed but it will probably be
in July. As more details become available e-mail updates will be
forwarded.
As was mentioned on the Web site we have had a few
changes on the players’ committee. Andre Bachelet steps in for George
Sucher and Mark Williams; and Jon Hinkin, Mike Skahan and Mike Stanaway
have joined the committee as non-voting members. John Jelaco will
remain as President and Steve Hazel has replaced Jeff Lombard as TA
Manager. It is great to have new faces aboard. In Bermuda the committee
voted Andre Bachelet as TA Captain. We are fortunate to have Andre. He
is a great player and a passionate leader.
Gentleman, we cannot
play anybody without money. This year, in addition to the efforts of
our fundraising committee, each player will be responsible for
individual fundraising. Last year, each TA member’s trip to Bermuda was
paid for and there is no reason that the same cannot happen again this
year. We have yet to establish an exact figure but each player will
need to raise approximately $2,500.00. We are in process of putting
together a fund raising presentation and will make it available upon
completion. Start putting the word out and get some sponsors. The $$
does not all have to come from a single source. Several small
sponsorships are just as good as a large one. TA is a registered 501
(C) (3) organization, so sponsorships are tax deductible. In addition,
please send your dues. Dues are $125.00 and must be paid to be eligible
for TA selection. Please make checks payable to “Team America” and mail
to: Team America, 2840 Ficus Street, Pomona, CA 91766, ATTN: Tammy
Miller.
As you get into your club seasons, be on the lookout for
former Eagles and other high level players over 33 years old. Put the
word out about TA and get contact information to a member of the player
committee. Best of luck to all of you and your clubs for the upcoming
