Team America  (33) v. Canada (19)

In the first game of the evening Wednesday night at Bermuda National Stadium, Team America defeated the Canadian Classics. Jason Ravon lead all scorers with two trys and Jon Hinkin added four conversions as TA dominated the Canadians 33 – 12 taking the all-time series lead 4 – 3 in Classic games dating back to 1995. This is the second time this year that TA has defeated the Canadians. The last was this past June in Aspen as TA manhandled Canada 50 – 15.

Team America took an early a 5 - 0 as Jason Raven scored the first try of the match. The game went back and forth through the rest of the first half before Doug Brown scored in injury time. Jon Hinkin notched the conversion and Team America went into the half with a comfortable 12 - 0 lead.

With 2 minutes gone in the second half, Mike Stanaway scored a try for the Team America. With the Jon Hinkin conversion, TA pulled ahead 19 – 0. Jason Raven scored his second try of the night and Jon Hinkin kicked another conversion. Team America built a seemingly insurmountable 26 – nil lead.

Scoring three unanswered trys, Canada made a game of it. Kevin Wirachowski scored the first for Canada but Scott Stewart’s conversion attempt sailed just wide. Rob Robson scored the second and this time Scott Stewart nailed the conversion to make the score 26 - 12. Rob Robson scored again and Stewart’s conversion brought Canada to within a try with the score now 26 – 19.

TA turned it back on and Andy Newcombe finished off the Canadians as he scored the final try of the match. Hinkin’s conversion made the final 33 – 19, Team America.

In first round action, Canada had lost to South Africa, while the TA was beaten by the Barbarians.
