United States Classic Eagles vs. Canadian Classics (New Squad Announced)

All Classic Eagles have represented the United States in the game of rugby at various levels and this match gives the US the opportunity to create a selection pool for the tournament eight months away. The first and foremost requirement to represent the Classic Eagles is that a player must have represented the U.S. at some level of International rugby play. Most of the current players have International games (caps) for the United States 15’s squad and or the United States 7’s both of which travel internationally representing Old Glory playing competitively against the likes of: South Africa, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Japan and others. However, not all of the current players on the Classic Eagles have had such an opportunity. As the game of rugby continues to gain popularity within the U.S. with growing high school programs in the United States and with the increasing popularity of the 7’s International Tournament, held last year in San Diego, the United States Eagles have yet to achieve the level of professionalism that nearly all of its International rivals posses.

With this in mind, the Eagles must continue to support themselves in funding for travel and continue to search out the best players to represent the club not only in athleticism and ability but in personal fiscal ability and travel availability as well. This personal commitment away from their careers and family provides the Classic Eagles Selection Committee an opportunity to choose the best of choice selection for a position for tournament to come. This year the 2008 trip to Victoria welcomes some new and old faces with both great international experience as well as those that have been reserves to the U.S. first squad and may be looking for their first time to shine as an International player.

The Classic Eagles have always been a crowd favorite in Bermuda and always offer that ‘underdog’ theme. As the 2008 Eagles prepare for their match up against Canada and in turn their return to ‘The Rock’ in Bermuda, we wish them the best. Please stay tuned for more updates and feel free to request information from our Player Committee, Selection Committee and/or Fundraising Committee.

The Classic Eagles, a 501c3 organization, are asking all of the Eagles to pay their own way for this trip and are accepting any donations that can be made by any individual or organization. (Make your tax deductable donation here)
